RecrPlaces Privacy Policy

Regional Problems of Economy and Policy Research Laboratory (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine),("Laboratory", "we") will use Instagram public content for research purposes. Mykola Kozyr (@mykolakozyr) serves as the executive agent for the RecrPlaces application and controls who at the Laboratory has access to the public content.

Instagram is a third-party social networking photo and image sharing tool and its privacy policy can be found at this page.

Laboratory will only use location of photos and images. Laboratory will not use this application to: 1) actively seek PII; 2) “view” public users’ photos and images. To the extent public media content gained by the Laboratory, we will use the minimum amount necessary to accomplish a purpose of the research.

Laboratory would use this information for a multiscale research:
- Medium-Scale. Generalized visualization of geolocated photos may help us to find popular regions for tourists and local residents. We may use this information to develop proposals for sustainable development of the territory. It is especially valuable for reserved areas, because these results may prevent reserved area violation.
- Local-Scale. Geolocated photos visualisation may help us to distinguish local popular places. It is especially important for cities' green areas. Research results may help local authorities to develop recreational infrastructure and prevent fouling the area.
We do not ask users to authorize the application. The application is fully hosted on a local machine. Laboratory needs the public_content scope to get the data.

To protect your privacy and the privacy of others, do not post photos and images that include your full name, date of birth, social security number, address, phone numbers, email addresses, case numbers, or any other sensitive PII.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information.
